Oculus Quest 2: What is it? How does it work?

Oculus Quest 2 is an autonomous virtual reality headset developed by Meta (formerly known as Facebook). Oculus Quest 2 offers VR experiences without the need to connect to an external device such as a computer or console. Equipped with advanced technical specifications like the Snapdragon XR2 processor, 6 GB of RAM, 1832 x 1920 resolution, and a 90 Hz refresh rate, Oculus Quest 2 stands out. Additionally, it includes a store where you can download VR games, applications, entertainment, and more. If you’re curious about how Oculus Quest 2 works, follow the steps below:

  • To use Oculus Quest 2, you first need a Meta account. If you do not have one, you can create one by clicking the link at the bottom of the page.
  • To power on Oculus Quest 2, press the power button and put on the headband. You can adjust the distance between the lenses using the IPD adjustment located on the front of the headset.
  • If you’re using the headset for the first time, a setup wizard will guide you. During setup, you’ll need to connect to a Wi-Fi network, log in with your Meta account, and establish a guardian boundary. The guardian boundary defines the physical area in which you can safely move in the VR environment.
  • Once the setup is complete, you can access the main menu on your headset. The main menu includes options like the store, library, browser, social features, and settings. You can purchase or download new games and applications from the store. In your library, you can view and launch downloaded or purchased games and apps. The browser allows you to access the internet or visit VR-compatible websites. The social section lets you communicate with friends or participate in VR events. In the settings section, you can customize audio, visual settings, privacy options, and more.
  • You can interact in the VR environment using the two touch controllers included with your headset. Each controller has triggers, grips, B/X, A/Y, menu, and Oculus buttons. Additionally, each controller features an analog stick and a touch surface. For more information on how to use the controllers, you can refer to this guide.

Oculus Quest 2 Age Recommendation:

Oculus Quest 2 is not a toy and should not be used by children under 13 years old. Younger children are more likely to be injured or experience adverse effects compared to adults. While we understand that children under 13 might be interested in using Oculus Quest 2, we do not allow them to create accounts or use the headset. Adults should monitor the time their children spend using the headset, ensure that their child follows all safety warnings, and takes breaks during usage.
